The OPV-88 is intended for patrolling, ecological monitoring and search and rescue missions, with the ship divided into ten watertight compartments, twin-shaft propulsion, excessive freeboard and a helipad at the aft of the craft for terminal location of heavy helicopter up to 11t.
The ship is designed to operate in tropical conditions with ambient air temperatures of 0 to 45 Degrees C, sea water temperature within 8 and 32 Degrees C, relative humidity of up to 100% and barometric pressure of 1000 mbar.

The ship is designed as a flush deck type without the forecastle and poop, with one twin deck and the bottom platform, twin-shaft propulsion, with the intermediate (close to the midship) machinery spaces arrangement and medium arrangement of accommodation, with excessive freeboard.
The ship hull is divided into ten watertight compartments by nine main transverse bulkheads.
The helipad for terminal location of heavy helicopter (up to 11 t) is provided in the aft part of the vessel.
Controllable pitch propellers with a drive from medium speed marine diesels are provided at the ship for propulsion system.
The ballast and fuel oil tanks are arranged in forepeak, afterpeak and tanktop providing the required ship trim and stability in all loading configuration.
