The South and Central American countries are looking to have better security in their home waters, and immediate international
borders. With drug and people-smugglers getting more sophisticated (some are using submarines) there is a greater awareness that investment in naval assets to combat the increased threats must be made.
Brazil, Columbia, Ecuador and Panama are all countries that have increased budgets for a wide range of craft, even up to Frigate size in the case of Brazil.
The market is very buoyant for all types of vessels, but with special attention being paid to Patrol Craft. From inshore Coastguard, to offshore Oil/Gas Installations. Vessels are being laid down in shipyards throughout the globe.
This has of course meant greater competition, some of which is good, but some are building boats that are less than perfect for the role they have to play.
